Corina Song is a Partner in the Maritime & Aviation practice. Her practice includes all areas of contentious shipping and admiralty matters, as well as both contentious and non-contentious aspects of insurance.
Insofar as shipping and admiralty matters are concerned, Corina has acted in a wide variety of disputes including charterparty and bill of lading disputes, ship repair claims involving possessory liens, just to name a few. Matters in which Corina has more recently been involved in include acting for minority shareholders/directors involved in the shipping/timber business in a complex oppression action involving a dozen actions; acting for numerous creditors in the Armada Shipping scheme of arrangement; acting for a shipping company, undergoing restructuring, in defending multiple claims in the Singapore court in excess of US$80 million and also involved in co-ordinating multiple actions brought against the company in various jurisdictions; the “CATUR SAMUDRA” which is the first local reported decision where the Singapore Court considered whether a claim arising under a guarantee of charterparty obligations attracted admiralty jurisdiction and acting for various banks in enforcing their claims by way of an arrest including the recent arrests of various Korea Line vessels.
As for Corina’s insurance practice, she recently acted for an insurance company in defending a claim based on material non-disclosure and also successfully resisted the insured’s application to the Court of Appeal for leave to appeal to the Singapore court against the Tribunal’s award; and advised Parkway hospitals in its recent collaboration with OAC, to develop and offer Singapore’s first post-surgical care insurance policy.
Corina is recommended for her litigation work in The Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2010/2011 and 2012). She has also been highly recommended by PLC Which Lawyer? (2010) for her insurance work. She also sits on the committee of the Maritime Law Association of Singapore (MLAS) and is the immediate past Vice President of the Singapore chapter of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA).
Corina obtained an LLB (Hons) degree from the University of Hull in 1988 and an LLM from the University College London in 1992. She was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in January 1992 and called to the Singapore Bar in March 1993. She joined Allen & Gledhill in 1997 and became a Partner in 2000.
