Long Jek Aun is a Partner in Financial Services. He has been specialising in investment funds work for more than a decade since the late 1990s and is considered by many as a veteran in the Singapore fund management industry. Jek Aun has worked on some of the largest funds in the Asia-Pacific region.
Building upon his expertise in retail funds and listed funds/capital markets work in the earlier part of his career in Singapore and Hong Kong, Jek Aun currently serves as a practice head within the firm’s market leading investment funds group, focusing primarily on private and institutional funds work including private equity and hedge funds. His transactional and advisory experience includes acting for domestic and foreign clients on the structuring, establishment and marketing of funds investing in all types of assets (including infrastructure and real estate) and advising on licensing, regulatory and securities laws issues relating to the fund management industry. He also advises corporate and institutional clients and sovereign wealth funds in connection with their funds investments, and assists fund managers with the establishment of their operations in Singapore.
Jek Aun has been cited by Chambers Global and Chambers Asia-Pacific for his expertise in funds work, with clients interviewed attesting that he “is someone we can rely on to cover all the aspects”. He has also been named in the International Financial Law Review’s Expert Guide to the World’s Leading Investment Funds Lawyers and endorsed by PLC Which Lawyer? as a leading individual. From a team perspective, besides being ranked ahead of competitors in Singapore by leading international legal publications for its funds work, Allen & Gledhill was awarded Singapore Firm of the Year 2010 by Asian-Counsel in their 4th annual ‘Representing Corporate Asia Survey’ for various practice areas including Alternative Investment Funds.
Jek Aun speaks and writes regularly on legal issues concerning the fund management industry. His past speaking engagements include speaking at the Institute of Banking and Finance 2010 Compliance Seminar, the UBS APAC Journalists Forum 2010, Euromoney’s Asset Management (Legal, Regulatory & Compliance Issues) Legal Training Course and the Nanyang Polytechnic’s FICS-accredited Fund Management & Administration Programme. He recently co-wrote the Singapore Chapter of the International Guide to Hedge Fund Regulation (Bloomsbury Professional) and has contributed articles to the Financier Worldwide, the International Financial Law Review and the Capital Markets Law Journal (Oxford University Press).
Jek Aun graduated from the University of Nottingham in the UK with a LLB (Hons) degree and completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Singapore Law at the National University of Singapore. He was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore in 1998 and to the Roll of Solicitors, England and Wales. Prior to joining Allen & Gledhill, Jek Aun worked at various leading law firms in Singapore and Hong Kong. While in Hong Kong, he specialised in funds and regulatory work at a UK ‘Magic Circle’ international law firm.
