Gina Lee-Wan joined Allen & Gledhill in 1997 as a Partner and co-heads the Maritime & Aviation Practice Group. Her practice encompasses contentious and non-contentious shipping matters, international trade and insurance matters, focusing primarily on ship construction, ship sale and purchase, and ship and aircraft leasing and financing.
Her clients include all of Singapore’s major banks, other lenders and shipowners and she has been involved in the majority of the ship finance transactions in Singapore.
Gina has spoken at various conferences held locally and overseas including the Asian Maritime Law Conference in 2009.
She has contributed to articles in Chapter 4 (Ships) in Halsbury’s Laws of Singapore Vol 17(2) on Shipping, 2006 Edn and the chapter on Singapore Flag and Registration of Vessels/Mortgages of Vessels in Maritime Law Handbook.
Gina has been ranked in the top tier of leading individuals in Shipping by Chambers Asia (2010), Chambers Asia (2009) and The Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2009/2010) and is frequently cited as an expert in shipping. Chambers Asia (2010) notes that “Having started out as a litigator, Gina Lee-Wan has moved into the finance sphere, where she now practices exclusively, becoming ‘the only person at her level worth considering in Singapore for pure finance work; she is omnipresent, covering the whole market and offering the style and quality of service we would expect from an international firm,’ clients report”. Chambers Asia (2009) notes that she “‘dominates the ship finance market in Singapore and her superb work in the field acts as an advert for the quality of legal practitioners in Singapore,’ sources comment. Omnipresent when it comes to major finance transactions, Lee-Wan is the first port of call for virtually every client active in this area”. The Asia Pacific Legal 500 (2009/2010) has noted that she is the “local ship finance doyenne”.
In Who’s Who Legal Singapore (2008), Gina “‘stands out at the top of the field’ for her shipping finance practice. Known for her work on ship construction, sale and purchase, she counts all of Singapore’s major banks and ship owners among her clients and is a ‘pre-eminent authority in the region’.”
Gina has been a Deputy Commissioner of Maritime Affairs for Vanuatu in Singapore since 1996. She qualified as a Barrister-at-Law at Gray’s Inn in 1980. Gina was called to the Singapore Bar in 1981. She is a member of the General Committee of the Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration, a member of the Advisory Panel to the Singapore Maritime Foundation, an Honorary Legal Advisor to the Singapore Shipping Association and a Governor of Tanglin Trust School Limited.
