Practice Training Contracts

Allen & Gledhill can only be as good as the people we recruit and train. Therefore, we are totally committed to the recruitment, training and professional development of our Practice Trainees. Once selected, we hope the experience will be an enlightening and rewarding one for you.

Each Practice Trainee will be assigned to a Partner in the Firm who is qualified to be a Supervising Solicitor under rule 5 of the Legal Profession (Practice Training Period) Rules 2009. For a list of our Supervising Solicitors for 2010, please click here.

Our Practice Trainee Programme consists of the following components:

Assisting Supervising Solicitor in drafting, advising, minuting, researching, organising etc

Mentor-mentee interactions between Supervising Solicitor and Practice Trainee

Assisting other Partners/Associates on matters in another practice area not covered by Supervising Solicitor

Formal seminar sessions on core corporate and core litigation issues

Variety of teaching techniques used during seminars, including case studies, quizzes and role plays

Ready access to database of memos, manuals and other reference materials and knowhow

Areas of practice in which a Practice Trainee will be exposed to include:

Civil litigation

Criminal litigation

Corporate transactions

Pre-qualification training isn't just about work, you'll be glad to hear! There are regular social events so our Practice Trainees can get together in an informal environment either to meet Partners and Associates, or to interact amongst themselves. Weekly teas are organised so Partners, Associates and Practice Trainees get a chance to mingle and meet members of other departments within the Firm.

Post-qualification

Every Practice Trainee is recruited with a view to long term retention by the Firm. Therefore, every Practice Trainee who works hard and gives of their best can expect to be invited to remain with us on their admission to the profession.

Of course, completing your Practice Training Contract is just the beginning. If you choose to remain with the Firm after admission, you can expect the professional learning and development to continue throughout the rest of your career with us. All our lawyers attend courses and take part in further training on a regular basis so as to develop and improve their legal skills. The legal world is ever changing and successful lawyers keep pace with it.

The establishment of our joint law venture, Linklaters Allen & Gledhill, also means that there are real opportunities for young lawyers to be seconded to one of Linklaters' offices around the world. Several of our lawyers are already on secondment at Linklaters' offices in London and Hong Kong, thus enabling them to gain increased exposure to international work and other jurisdictions.

We pride ourselves on our camaraderie and many of our lawyers see each other as friends rather than colleagues. As a firm, we organise regular social events. Apart from regular departmental gatherings and the annual Christmas lunch, there are firmwide trips, inter-departmental bowling competitions as well as intra-firm badminton and football matches.
